Fourth Quarter Curriculum
Reading: Students will build their vocabulary using prefixes and suffixes. They will review literature the first few weeks of the quarter, and then they will look at informational text. Students will apply test taking strategies to reading passages to prepare them for EOGs in June.
Writing: Students will be writing persuasive papers. They will support those persuasive topics with facts and research. Students will make sure they they are using correct grammar and spelling.
Math: Students will be relating fractions to decimals. They will have a unit on measurement and line plots. We will spend time reviewing strategies to help with EOGs.
Social Studies. Students are doing a unit on Culture and Environmental Literacy.
Science: Halfway through the quarter, students will complete a unit on electricity and magnetism. They will meet with Mr. Berg, the other T4 teacher.
Third Quarter Curriculum
Reading: Students will be doing a unit on Historical Fiction. They will be reading carefully to check for comprehension. They will be comparing different kinds of texts and building vocabulary.
Writing: Students will be writing about their opinions on various topics. They will support those opinions with facts and research. Students will make sure they they are using correct grammar and spelling.
Math: Students will start the quarter with a unit on area and perimeter. They will complete a unit on patterns. Most of the quarter will be a focus on fractions.
Social Studies. Students are doing a unit on Economics.
Science: Halfway through the quarter, students will complete a unit on rocks and minerals. They will meet with Mr. Berg, the other T4 teacher.
First Quarter Curriculum
Reading: Students will be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction text. They will implement Daily Five Cafe using Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, Listen to Reading, and Read with Someone.They will compare characters and refer to the theme of a story. Students will use details from the text to support their answers.
Writing: Students will begin the quarter by writing a narrative. They will work on capital letters and correct spelling. They will use details to describe their main topic in non-fiction writing.
Math: Students are working on place value, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Social Studies: Students will be doing a unit on Citizenship as it relates to the government.
Science: Halfway through the quarter, students will complete a unit on landforms. They will meet with Mr. Berg, the other T4 teacher.
